Civic Hotel Milestone Media Event
07 / 26 / 2017On Wednesday, July 26th, Civic Hotel, in collaboration with the City of Surrey, hosted an exclusive media event on the Civic Plaza to mark a significant milestone: the raising of the Civic Hotel diamond on the third tallest tower in the Metro Vancouver region.
Surrey’s Mayor, Linda Hepner, building upon the initiative of former Mayor Diane Watts, applauded the achievement and restated her strong commitment to to create a vibrant, new urban hub in Surrey City Centre. With her City Councillors, Mayor Hepner spoke about the opportunities in Surrey and the transition that the City is undertaking.
Surrey is undergoing a rapid transformation as the city advances to become the next major business and tourism hotspot outside of Downtown Vancouver. By 2031, Surrey City Centre’s population alone will rise to 65,000 residents and there will be 36,000 workers — a 57% increase.
The City of Surrey’s Economic Development team also attended, following the announcement of their Invest Surrey platform, which is expected to generate international interest in four key priority business sectors. It is estimated that an additional 36,200 jobs can be created in Surrey by 2025 by growing Surrey’s priority sectors.
To support this, Franklin Jackson, General Manager of Civic Hotel, gave a hiring update for the opportunities available at this new hotel, as well as an update on Civic Hotel’s development.
Civic Hotel is positioned to meet the needs of this growing business community, tapping into the unmet opportunity that exists in the city. To signify the milestone, Century Group, the developer of the 3 Civic Plaza project, which includes Civic Hotel, arranged to bring the hotel’s diamond symbol on to the Civic Plaza: a 13-foot tall, LED lightbox that will be installed 52 storeys above the Plaza.
Thank you to all media that attended this exclusive event. We appreciate your support and belief in this second metropolitan centre and its upward trajectory for British Columbia’s success.
