Embracing Sustainability in Surrey City Centre
Situated in the heart of Surrey City Centre, Civic Hotel proudly participates in the City of Surrey’s District Energy System. In 2020, Surrey City Energy expanded its network to include 19 buildings connected to its district energy system. By 2021, 60% of the natural gas at the West Village Energy Centre was Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from the Surrey Biofuel Facility, which processes the city’s organic waste into compost and RNG. This RNG powers sustainable heating for connected residents and businesses, including Civic Hotel.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Sustainability isn’t a trend, it’s how we operate. We’ve designed every part of the guest experience to reduce environmental impact without compromising comfort. Rooms are stocked with reusable glass water bottles to reduce single-use plastics, and our partnership with TALLU & Co. brings refillable shower dispensers to every bathroom.
You can also enjoy Illy coffee capsules, knowing they’re fully recycled, the grounds are turned into soil enhancers and renewable energy, and the capsules themselves are repurposed into new materials.
We’re continually finding ways to operate more efficiently, from offering linen reuse for up to three-night stays to installing LED lighting across the hotel. And with strict waste-sorting and recycling practices in place, we make sure as little as possible goes to landfill.
Local Flavours
We source products and ingredients locally to celebrate BC and minimize transportation emissions whenever possible. We use our rooftop garden for select produce, Mainland Whisky & Red Racer Beer from Surrey, Southlands Tsawwassen Farm and Snow Farms in Delta for catering ingredients and source a BC-based wine list.
