Embracing Sustainability in Surrey City Centre
Situated in the heart of Surrey City Centre, Civic Hotel proudly participates in the City of Surrey’s District Energy System. In 2020, Surrey City Energy expanded its network to include 19 buildings connected to its district energy system. By 2021, 60% of the natural gas at the West Village Energy Centre was Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from the Surrey Biofuel Facility, which processes the city’s organic waste into compost and RNG. This RNG powers sustainable heating for connected residents and businesses, including Civic Hotel.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
At Civic Hotel, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a way of life. We’ve carefully curated every aspect of a guest’s experience to minimize environmental impact while maximizing comfort and convenience. Guests will find reusable glass water bottles in guest rooms, eliminating the need for single-use plastics. We have partnered with TALLU & co., a local sustainable wellness brand, to provide refillable shower dispensers for in-room usage.
Indulge in Illy coffee capsules, knowing they’re part of a recycling program. After collection, the coffee grounds are used to create soil improvers and renewable energy, and the capsule will be transformed into new products.
We’re dedicated to energy efficiency, offering linen reuse for up to three nights and utilizing LED lighting throughout the hotel. But we don’t stop there. Our rigorous trash sorting and recycling initiatives ensure that waste is minimized at every turn, further reducing our ecological footprint.
Local Flavours
We source products and ingredients locally to celebrate BC and minimize transportation emissions whenever possible. We use our rooftop garden for select produce, Mainland Whisky & Red Racer Beer from Surrey, Southlands Tsawwassen Farm and Snow Farms in Delta for catering ingredients and source a BC-based wine list.
